Mother's Day is a special occasion celebrated all around the world to honor and appreciate mothers. While the holiday is widely recognized, there are some fun and interesting facts surrounding the history and celebration of Mother's Day. We’ll share six fun facts about Mother’s Day:

  1. The idea of Mother's Day was first suggested in the United States by Julia Ward Howe in 1872. However, it was not until 1908 that the first official Mother's Day was celebrated in the United States.

  2. Mother's Day is the busiest day of the year for phone calls. According to AT&T, Mother's Day sees more phone calls made than any other day of the year, even more than on New Year's Eve or Christmas Day.

  3. The most popular gift for Mother's Day is flowers. According to the National Retail Federation, in 2021, consumers spent a total of $2.8 billion on flowers for Mother's Day.

  4. In Mexico, Mother's Day is celebrated on May 10th, which is also the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, a significant event in Mexican history.

  5. In Thailand, Mother's Day is celebrated on August 12th, which is the birthday of Queen Sirikit, the current queen of Thailand, who is considered the mother of all Thai people.

  6. In the United Kingdom, Mother's Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent, which is also known as Mothering Sunday.
