How to Stop the Summer Slide

The term "summer slide" refers to the learning loss or regression that can occur when students are on summer break and not actively engaged in educational activities.

According to Oxford Learning, 2.6 months of math skills and 2 months of reading skills are lost over the summer.

The good news is that providing weekly reading and math activities for your children can help combat the effects of summer learning loss. At Star Tutoring, we understand the importance of maintaining academic progress during the summer break. That's why we have designed comprehensive and personalized summer programs tailored to fit every student's needs.

Our core programs include:

  • Math: We check mastery of all content/standards to ensure readiness for the next school year. We also pre-teach upcoming concepts to build confidence.

  • ELA: We help with summer reading, developing study skills, practicing writing, and studying vocabulary.

  • Test Prep: With less on your child’s plate, summer is a great time to prepare for the SAT, ACT, or ISEE.

  • School Applications: We can help your child search and explore private schools and colleges and then coach them to prepare their applications, essays, and interviews.

  • Executive Functioning: Does your child struggle to turn in assignments on time or know what to work on? Are they coping with an ADHD diagnosis? We can help build organizational, planning, and study skills, which are foundational for success in school.

If you think your child might need help developing studying skills or needs some remedial support in math or reading, feel free to give us a call at (214) 444-3431 or visit www.startutoringcenters.com.
