Star Tutoring Centers is a novel approach to after-school academic services.  In addition to subject matter education, we focus on building executive functioning skills and developing habits that transfer to success in real life. We reinforce organization, planning, goal orientation, and self-advocacy, while also finding ways to develop intrinsic motivation through self-awareness. We are looking for energetic English Language Arts (ELA) Tutors to join us this summer/Fall and lead our daily sessions. Part-time and full-time positions are available depending on the needs of the business throughout the school year.

Responsibilities will include…

  • Direct tutoring with students (Middle School and High School level) with a specialty in English Language Arts (reading, writing, literature, and the humanities)

  • Facilitating the growth of students' Executive Skills

  • Maintaining session notes and keeping time records up-to-date

  • Interacting with parents, teachers, and health professionals

  • Collaborating with and assisting other tutors as needed

We’re very interested if…

You have prior tutoring experience. You are working towards, or hold, an advanced degree in the subject(s) you specialize. You have a degree in education or special education. You have experience working with students with dyslexia, autism, anxiety, or attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD). You can identify students with potential learning differences. We are keenly interested in tutors who are fluent in multiple languages and those that understand higher level math and sciences.

About the schedule....

We are currently hiring for the 2023-24 academic year, with positions starting in August 2023. We are seeking tutors from a variety of backgrounds who are committed to working with us for the duration of the school year (from August until June). We run sessions Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Sundays from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM. We ask all tutors to try to maintain a consistent weekly schedule of availability. Our staff will handle the administrative work so that you can focus on best serving our students.
