Fun Facts About April Fools' Day



As March comes to a close, we thought it would be fun to share some facts about the infamous day of April 1st. Here are some facts about April Fools’ Day (from Fun Kids):

  • April Fools’ Day is celebrated in all parts of the world, including Greece, India, Poland, the US, and more! It’s not just a US custom!

  • Since the 1700s, there have been informal rules saying you are supposed to stop playing pranks by 12 PM on April Fools’ Day. The reasons for this “rule” are uncertain!

  • The Ancient Romans used to have a holiday that was very similar to April Fools’ Day. The holiday was called Hilaria.

  • According to some historians, the tradition of playing pranks on each other each April 1st dates back to 1582.

  • In Scotland, Gowkie Day or Hunt the Gowk (which is April Fools' Day for us) is celebrated for not one, but two days.
