We tailor our tutoring sessions around the fundamentals that excel students academically. Our goal is to build executive functioning, organization, and time management skills through the use of proper study habits and routines. We encourage our students to think outside the box on difficult problems, try new strategies, and learn how to figure out what works for them as a student. We want students to both “Learn It” and “Own It.”
- Learn It -
We provide students with academic support by first gauging their current academic progress and mastery of lessons. Our first priority is to make sure they are caught up and confident with their current classwork so they can participate well in class. Second, we go back and remediate gaps in understanding that may be foundational. Third, if there is remaining time, we can pre-teach upcoming lessons to get ahead. Our tutors try to reinforce sound study skills and note-taking in the context of their daily sessions.
- Own It -
Students will learn to take control of their homework and study schedule. We help students build executive functioning skills by guiding them on how to assess their full workload, prioritize their assignments, and develop a weekly study schedule. We guide students on how to organize their backpacks and binders so they can store and recall papers and have a dedicated place for their homework. We help students practice self-advocacy by coaching them on how to contact their teachers for clarification or support.
By working together, we can ensure that your student not only learns the content but also owns their educational experience. Our goal is to build independence in learning that will support them into college and beyond.
